Forever 21 again

The race is a week away tomorrow. We will be #21 and pitting with Norwegian and German Guzzi teams. Which is always good for spare parts. Vorsprung durch Stealing.

I'll be posting everyday from Wednesday through Sunday.

In the meantime here are some pictures of the bike 2 days before it shipped:

Boxed set

So it's finally happened. The bike is at the airport. No turning back. Next stop Belguim. Thank you again Ralph for the building of the crate (and for tolerating me) and my lovely friends and loved ones who have made this possible.

The bucks stop here

New Moto Spezial V sump requires a new belly pan or 3. Setrab oil cooler and Mocal sandwich plate complete the set up. Bike ships in a week or so.

When I'm too old to race.

Which will hopefully be never. But if so I'd like to do this.

As I'm feeling sentimental….and the best looking bike ever.

So here's my red racer in my brother's garage in Brussels. I know it's a greenish shade of red but trust me it's red.

I'm putting the finishing touches to my black racer at the moment in preparation for Spa in July.

To sidetrack for a moment: the crazy artist in me does think it perfectly reasonable to have 2 bikes on 2 continents (and the 2 other Guzzis at my studio) but that's another story.

Anyway to continue. Last year we had to cancel Spa at the very last minute (that's what happens sometimes when 2 crazy artists make up a race team). My Dad had arranged to come over from the UK and watch. Long story but that would've been quite 'entertaining' and not something one would expect. He's a huge Formula 1 fan and Spa is his favorite track. He's a huge pain in the ass but I really wanted him to see us barrel through Eau Rouge. According to Richard (my Dad) the G Force (or down force, whatever) is so great in F1 cars through there that they could go through upside down. Or something. My grasp of aerodynamics is about as good as his story-telling.

Obviously we weren't able to impress him with our knee down heroics last year but he did still make the trip to Brussels to 'entertain' my brother. He had a great time pottering around the neighborhood and eating chips. I spoke to him when he got back and he admitted to peeking under the green (or is it blue) tarp and I quote "that's the nicest looking bike I've ever seen". That warmed my heart. Yeah, whatever. Shut up!!

The black Guzzi is wired, painted, checked, re-checked, fettled, fiddled and tweaked and Dad, I know you won't be reading this as you still don't check you're cell phone messages (actually he doesn't know how and can't be bothered to learn and he has never ever used a computer) but trust me we will be there this year and you may have to change your mind about the best looking bike ever.

Colour inspiration

Below is a Ford GT40 that beat the Europeans at Lemans in 1966. Seems fitting. Though does a European in America trying to beat the Europeans count ??
